The huge splendour lineup has arrived and it is getting mixed emotions.
Splendour In The Grass is set to take place in North Byron Parklands on the 21st and finishing on the 23rd of July. The festival has been held annually since 2001, each year the lineup has differed in all different genres and styles of music from all over the world.
I interviewed Sonja Jones who has attended the festival for the past five consecutive years and asked her what she thought about this years lineup.
How many years have you attended Splendour In the Grass?
“I have attended splendour in the grass for 5 years. Initially at Belongil Fields before moving to North Byron Parklands.”
What are your thoughts on this years lineup?
“My thoughts on the lineup are mixed. It seems a good cross section of genres, but no artists that I’m dying to see. I expected the headliners to be bigger. There are some huge names on overseas festival lineups and Splendour seems to have missed out on the ‘Hot right now’ artists like Kendrick Lamar, Lorde etc. The tickets are on sale earlier than usual, leaving me with the feeling that there may be another large festival looming or some big name tours such as Foo Fighters, Radiohead and Splendour want to tie up out funds.”
What is your favourite artist/s on the lineup?
“Royal Blood. They blew me away at Splendour a couple of years ago. I’ve seen 21 of the bands previously at least 6 of those at previous Splendours.”
Who is an interesting artist that has been added to the lineup?
“Father John Misty. He is here in May for Vivid with Fleet Foxes. Is there another album coming? Queens of The Stoneage. Pretty heavy and were here about three years ago. Catfish because they only just played Falls.”
